Gardening Top Tips

Rethink Rubbish offers the following five DIY tips for recycling in the garden:

  1. Make your own compost.
  2. Buy recycled plastic composters or make your own from scrap timber, old tyres, bricks or wire mesh, and use selected household rubbish - including newspaper, vegetable peelings and grass cuttings - to make compost.
  3. Cut empty drinks bottles in half to use as planters or bird feeders.
  4. Use empty yoghurt pots, small aluminium cans or papers egg cartons for seedlings.
  5. Cut old tyres in half to make into flower planters.
  6. Choose garden items made from recycled materials such as reclaimed railway sleepers or garden furniture made from recycled plastic.

You can do more than you think to help and it will make a huge difference - around 60% of your rubbish can be recycled
